Our S.T.A.M.P.S. community connects!

The first bags were probably created as early as the Stone Age.
They were probably mostly simple bags in which one carried the most important items. They were either made of cloth or leather. However, archaeologists have also found evidence of a richly decorated bag that was fitted with 100 dog teeth. In the course of time, the permanent companions became more and more detailed:

Straps were attached to fasten a small pouch around the wrist or belt. In ancient times, for example, people carried a purse in this way to store their money.
Straps were invented to tie a pouch around the stomach.
A sack was tied to a pole, which gave it more stability during transport. A trademark of Roman soldiers was a sack, which they carried on a stick. In addition to the most important objects, it also contained their provisions.
And finally, they invented handles and straps, which are still used today.
Cultural development encouraged creativity and individuality. With increasing craftsmanship, containers were made more and more elaborately.

Bags of all shapes, colours and sizes were created.

The simple sacks or pouches became

robust suitcases,
heavy-duty satchels or elegant
elegant wallets.
The practical wallet was invented,
the handy briefcase and
the playful pompadour - a small pouch worn around the wrist.
The modern bag at the end of the 18th century

At the end of the 18th century, ladies of high society kept their indispensable everyday items in them: Handkerchief, smelling salts and powder. When fashion changed at the beginning of the 19th century, more and more hard-wearing ladies' bags with handles came into fashion.

The travelling bag was born...

Thanks to the comfortable and resilient handles on the bags, men or women could take them with them on trips. Moreover, the bags were made of leather. They looked like small suitcases and had a snap closure.

Bags offering an alternative to leather conquer the market

After World War I, leather became scarce and expensive. Even large fashion houses therefore increasingly produced handbags from cotton fabrics. At the same time, the proportion of synthetic materials increased and the zipper was adopted from the Canadian army. Especially popular at that time were pouch bags and exotic dance bags. Metal net bags decorated with fringes were now also much bought. The introduction of the first machine for making metal mesh made them affordable for the general public.

The boom of the 1930s

The 1930s saw a resurgence in the design of the popular ladies' bag. The production of handbags focused on elaborate, playful to ostentatious details. At the same time, more and more synthetic materials were used. Especially underarm bags, so-called clutches, and evening bags became a must-have. The triumph of the women's handbag as the most popular accessory was unstoppable. It became an expression of personality and status.

The women's bag and its style in the 1950s

In the 1950s, other synthetic materials such as nylon, PVC and imitation leather were developed in the USA. Frame handbags celebrated a revival and the trend went to all box and case shapes. Bows, handles and hangers were also very popular again. Some famous classics were created at that time: The Kelly Bag and the Flap Bag by Chanel. With the onset of hippi fashion, however, shoulder bags became much larger again. In the 70s and 80s, the great competition of the most famous designers for the creation of the most beautiful and expensive bag models began. Alongside fashion collections, more and more elaborate bag collections were designed. The It-bag was born. The handbag became the ultimate prestige symbol. The Birkin Bag or the Baguette handbag by Fendi, for example, became modern classics.

At the turn of the millennium, messenger bags found their way into the fashion world.

Fanny packs celebrated a comeback in 2010. And with them, the practical companion also became much more popular again in bags for men.

Slowly, a rethinking took place in society: environmentally conscious bags are becoming more and more important.

Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in fashion shopping as well. Many designers adapted to this trend. The eco-image of environmentally friendly bags and other accessories gave way to a modern look. The designer Stella McCartney was a pioneer in creating vegan handbags. In the meantime, it is hard to imagine the fashion scene without vegan bags produced in an environmentally friendly way. Sustainable bags not only make fashion statements. They are also a way to express your love for nature and animals.

This is how the ladies' bag became more and more popular.

Over the centuries and decades, the bag has undergone many fashion transformations. Today, the choice is as wide as there are tastes. It is gratifying when the combination of style, individuality and quality is as successful as it is with our STAMPS designer bags.

For a long time, tote bags were equally popular with men and with women.

And this trend is increasingly coming back in these last two decades. Because thanks to all the technical devices that simplify our everyday lives, but also take up space and that's why a STAMPS bag is indispensable: mobile phones are getting bigger, tablets are indispensable for presentations to clients and in many cases a mobile computer also has to go with us to the office, to clients or to university every day. As a gift idea for men and women, STAMP watches or bags for women or modern bags for men, but also the accessories such as frames for the watch or watch straps are a brilliant idea.
